The 2022 FIFA World Cup is an international football tournament contested by the men’s national teams of FIFA’s member associations, and the 22nd FIFA World Cup. It is taking place in Qatar from 20 November to 18 December 2022. This is the first World Cup to be held in the Arab world, and the second World Cup held entirely in Asia after the 2002 tournament in South Korea and Japan. France are the defending champions, having defeated Croatia 4–2 in the 2018 FIFA World Cup final.

It marks the first World Cup to take place in an Arab nation and only the second to be held in Asia after World Cup 2002, which was hosted in Japan and South Korea.

The mascot for the FIFA World Cup 2022 is ‘La’eeb’. It is inspired by the keffiyeh, a traditional headdress worn by Arab men. ‘La’eeb’ in Arabic translates to ‘super-skilled player’.
